Frequently Asked Questions

Lash Extensions

Do lash extensions ruin your natural lashes?

If done improperly lash extensions can, and will, damage your natural lashes. At your first appointment we will go over what you can expect from your lash extensions and determine if the results that you want can be achieved in a way that will keep your natural lashes healthy.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

Please come to your appointment with absolutely no eye makeup on. Your lashes must be free of all makeup residue and the more time that has to be taken to remove your eye makeup prior to the service means less time to spend putting lashes on.

In order to minimize bathroom breaks try to avoid drinking too much prior to your appointment.

In order to minimize restlessness try to avoid too much caffeine prior to your appointment.

I recommend bringing some earbuds with you to your appointment so that you can listen to some music or an audiobook while I apply the extensions. I will have music on in the treatment room but find that some people enjoy zoning out to their own.

I’m ready to book, what’s next?

A $50 non-refundable booking fee is required in order to book for a full set of lash extensions and will be applied towards the total cost of your set. Adore Rouge has a 48 hour cancellation policy for full sets, so if you need to cancel or reschedule within 48 hours of your scheduled appointment your booking fee will be forfeit and a new one will be required to re-book.

How long will the extensions last?

This is a complicated question. It depends on the person and how well you care for them.

With proper care the lash extensions will fall out with your natural lash, so how long they will last depends on your own lashes growth cycle, which is anywhere from four to six weeks. Keep in mind that you will need fills prior to the four to six week mark because your lashes don’t all fall out at the same time and will look significantly thinner. To maintain them it is normal to come for a fill every two to three weeks.

How do I make my extensions last longer?

Don’t use oil based products around the eyes – this includes makeup remover, eye cream, face wash, makeup etc.

Don’t use waterproof or water resistant eye makeup.

Don’t use mascara.

Avoid unnecessary overexposure to heat and humidity.

Don’t stand with your face directly under the shower head.

Comb and fluff your lashes daily using the provided spoolie, but be careful not to tug too hard at the base of the lashes while doing so and make sure to only do this when lashes are completely dry.

Avoid sleeping in positions that result in your lashes touching the pillow all night. Consider picking up a beauty sleep mask, they are molded domes that rest around your eyes and lashes so they stay protected while you sleep.

Cleanse your lashes daily using the provided cleanser. Regardless of whether or not you wear makeup you need to cleanse daily to remove your skins natural oils that can build up at the base of your lashes.

How soon should I come back for a fill?

Unless you are getting your lash extensions for a special event and do not plan on keeping up with them, I recommend coming back for your first fill two weeks after your initial appointment to determine how your doing with at home care, and how often you should come in for fills going forward. Most people come every two to three weeks.

I already have extensions from another artist, can I just get a fill?

At this point in time Adore Rouge is unable to fill other peoples work. If you would like to become a client at Adore Rouge we would have to remove your old lashes and apply a new set.

Lash extension removals are complimentary with any new set.

Waxing

How long should my hair be in order to get waxed?

Hair should be 1/4″ – 1/2″ long for best results. This is usually about two weeks of regrowth after shaving.

If the hair is too short the wax will not pick all of it up and if it is too long it will cause more discomfort, be harder to wax and may result in an uneven wax due to breakage.

If the hair is too long, you may be asked to trim or shave and come back another time.

Is there anything I can do beforehand to make my wax more comfortable?

Do take some Ibuprofen (with your doctors permission) about 30 minutes prior to your waxing service.

Do use a topical analgesic 20-40 minutes prior to your service, it can reduce discomfort by up to 80%.

Avoid caffeine and alcohol for at least an hour prior to your service.

Exfoliate the area to be waxed  24 hours before your appointment.

Avoid going to the gym, sun bathing or using a tanning bed 24 hours before your service – all of these things will make you more sensitive.

Avoid using lotion or body oils in the area to be waxed the day of your appointment.

In addition to these, please note that women may experience extra sensitivity to waxing up to a week prior to the beginning of their period.

I’m still getting ingrowns, what can I do?

Ingrowns are fairly common with any type of hair removal, especially on the lip, underarms or bikini area. Following the aftercare tips provided will help but it is also recommended that you exfoliate with an exfoliation mitt and shower gel every other day (do not use an exfoliation mitt on your face). However, do not start exfoliating for at least 48 hours post wax.

If you get an infected ingrown use a q-tip and apply hydrogen peroxide to the area to kill the infection – and don’t pick!

What’s the difference between a Brazilian wax and a basic bikini wax?

A Brazilian wax is the removal of all of the pubic hair, as well as the hair around the anus, using wax. Some people choose to leave a small amount of hair in the front, like a strip or triangle.

A basic bikini wax is the removal of the hair immediately outside of where a bikini would sit.

Do you offer waxing services to men?

At this time waxing services are only available to women.

Do you need to be 18 to be waxed?

Waxing services will be performed on people under the age of 18 ONLY with a legal guardian present to sign the consent form. However, Adore Rouge will not, under any circumstance, perform a Brazilian bikini wax on anyone under the age of 18.

Anything important I should know?

Remember to breath! Holding your breath during your appointment causes you to tense up which can cause more discomfort. Try exhaling during the pull to help relax you a little.

Minor blood spotting is normal, especially if your hair has been shaved over a period of time or if your hair is coarse and thick.

Depending on what you are getting waxed you may be guided into different positions or asked to help hold the skin tight. All of this is to ensure you get the best wax possible.

Remember that I do this all the time! I understand that it can be a little nerve racking to get half naked in front of someone you just met and will try to make sure you are as comfortable as possible while the waxing service is being performed.

Is there any aftercare that I should be aware of?

Yes! In order to have the best results from your wax, you need to follow up your appointment with the appropriate after care. Using a bit of Neosporin, or product like it, for a day or two after your wax can be beneficial in the healing process and help reduce ingrowns. For the next 24 hours:

Don’t sunbathe or use a tanning bed, your skin is more sensitive and more likely to get burned.

Avoid pools, sauna’s, streneous excercise and tight clothing.

Avoid using lotions or body oils on a freshly waxed area for 24 hours.

Stay on top of your waxing! Schedule your next waxing appointment before leaving to help maintain smooth skin and decrease regrowth. Booking every 4-6 weeks will also get you a discount on most waxing services.

Is it true that waxing gets easier the more you do it?

Absolutely! Hair grows back more densely after shaving and will become less dense after waxing. You will notice that your hair becomes more sparse and less coarse the more you wax.

Am I a canidate for waxing as a method of hair removal?

Adore Rouge can not wax you if you use certain medications or over the counter skincare products. Please be sure to disclose ALL medications or over the counter products you may be using on your skin. Severe lifting of the skin can occur and potentially cause scarring.

Some topical things that must be avoided AT LEAST one week prior to waxing are Retin-A, a Retinol OTC, Retinoids, Renova, any form of Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA), professional or home micro-dermabrasion, glycolic peel, or any other peels.

If you have taken Accutane in the past twelve months or use any skin thinning medications or drugs, you can not be waxed.
